2009
Equest Auxiliary Luncheon Chair Lynn McBee (pictured) made it clear that she wanted today’s ”Horsin’ Around” fashion show at Brook Hollow to be fun. Well, it almost verged on rowdy, and we don’t mean like in Rowdy Yates. Those 380 ladies in the audience went from smitten with the child models to whooping it up for the VIP models, who strutted the catwalk wearing Highland Park Village’s best threads and gems. One future-diva model (guesstimate her age to be three-ish) just didn’t want to leave her moment in the spotlight and had to be encouraged by her male escort to retire backstage. Another little guy couldn’t quite make it all the way down the runway and had to be held to the finish line. Ah, men!
Fashion producer Rhonda Chambers Sargent was in the back of the room waving at her novice models and enjoying the show almost as much as the audience. That Rhonda gal is a smart one. Put her together with Lynn and you know you’re going to have a
well-thought through show. To break up the march of fashions, they had a halftime break highlighted by Dee and Emily Wyly (pictured from the left) receiving the 2009 Equest Award for Community Service.
Then it was on to the Escada part of the show. For this segment, the willowy professional models took over the strutting duties. The crowd settled back into proper-fashion show mode.
As for the non-runway news, how about:
Sandy Boswell was updating Sue John about Boswell daughter Jennifer Pickens’ new book about White House Christmases. According to Mother Sandy, Jennifer got the idea when she attended a White House Christmas party given by the George W. Bushes. Afterwards, she tried to research such events and discovered limited if any info. So, leave it to Jennifer to roll up her sleeves and turn out a 400-page book. Check Neiman’s for it. . . Yvonne Crum (pictured) was front and center looking happy, happy,
happy. And she should be. This Friday she will be recognized as the Woman of the Year 2009 by Les Femmes du Monde. Yvonne was with her posse including Femmes du Monde honorary co-chair Carolyn Lupton and co-chair Jill Rowlett. . . . Heather Dickie (she designed the invitation for Lynn) and Juliette Coulter arrived just in time after attending the Trinity Trust announcement at City Hall . . . Nancy Carter laughed when Lynn announced from the podium that Nancy would be chairing next year’s luncheon and there was no backing out.
What a wonderful event — congrats to Lynn, Rhonda, and all of the beautiful models and darling children. That was Lynn’s own niece Emmie (about 4 years old) who strutted the runway alone like a pro — seems like the apple didn’t fall far from that tree! Brook Hollow and Jack Bowles did the spectacular job for which they are known too. Most entertaining fashion show I’ve been to in years.
