Behind the Scenes of Yellow & Black Tie Gala

We often think famous folks breeze through life without the normal human pains. They seemed so insulated from the little hurts that the rest of us-stuck-in-morning-traffic suffer. For instance, people like Pat Smith (aka Mrs. Emmitt Smith) and Linda Armstrong (Lance’s mom). They’re simply too good to be true –gorgeous, intelligent, influencers among influencers. . . you know the drill.

Pat Smith, Lee Nagel, and Linda Armstrong Kelly croppedWell, here’s a snapshot of a reality moment. Yellow & Black Tie Gala Honorary Chair Pat (pictured, left, with Y&BTG chair Lee Nagel and Linda Armstrong, right) was at Methodist Richardson Cancer Center this past Wednesday touring the facility to better acquaint herself with the beneficiary of the November 14th gala at the Marriott at Legacy Town Center. There was a moment when she paused and told the others on the tour, “I feel as though God chose this day for me to be here.”

Why? You see Wednesday, November 4, would have been the birthday of Pat’s mother had she not succumbed to breast cancer in 1993 at the age of 56.

And what does Linda have to do with Pat? After all, Lance is no more known for his prowess on the football field than Emmitt is known for his cycling. Nope, it was golf that brought the two gals together. Methodist Richardson Medical Center Board Member Linda met Pat at a LIVESTRONG charity golf tournament earlier this year. Not only did the ladies hit it off, Pat said those words that every board member wants to hear: “Let me know what I can do to help.” Linda, without missing a beat, had the answer: “Serve as our gala honorary chair.”

So next Saturday Pat, Emmitt, Linda, and 500 other guests including Roger Staubach will be raising funds to fight cancer.
