Greyhound Rescue Group Races To Save Racetrack Veterans

std_41522_1251821578As if  Kris Schuster, property manager for The Plaza at Preston Center, didn’t have enough to do, she and a handful of greyhound lovers have launched the Texas Adopt A Greyhound Society (TAGS) to help rescue dogs no longer competing at the track. The timing is both good and not-so-good. The good is that September is Greyhound Planet Month. The not-so-good is the economy’s crunch on animal adoptions and financial support everywhere.

“I’ve been doing greyhound adoption work since 1995 when I was based in Austin,” says Kris. ”These gentle, loving animals become 40-mile-per-hour couch potatoes upon moving out of the racing environment. Most greyhounds come to adoption between the ages of 2 and 7 and often live healthy lives of 12 to 14 years.”

Kris and cohorts John Hall and Cindy Morris are welcoming potential owners and foster parents to meet the dogs available for adoption. Because the TAGS web site is racing toward completion, it’s best to call 214-368-8247 or e-mail TAGSintx@gmail.com.
