And why not? After all, Allie Beth orchestrated the purchase of the Bushes’ home on Daria, which the lovely and ever-vigilant Candy “Dallas Dirt Darling” Evans broke to the world last year.

Chatting it up on stage with the former first lady will be journalist and best selling author Cokie Roberts, who is married to fellow journalist Steve Roberts. She also just happens to be the daughter of former ambassador and Louisiana’s long-time Democratic Congresswoman Lindy Boggs and the late Hale Boggs, who was also a Louisiana Democratic Congressman, as well as the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives.

Needless to say, both Cokie and Laura will be able to compare notes on life in a political family bubble.

Understand that the luncheon is still a week out and organizers have already raised $900,000, thanks to such sponsors as

Presenting Sponsor ($100,000) – Andrews Distributing and AT&T

Red Carpet Sponsors ($15,000) – Allie Beth and Pierce Allman, Allie Beth Allman & Associates; and Lee Ann and Alan White, PlainsCapital Corporation

First Lady of the United States ($50,000) — J. Baxter Brinkmann and T. Boone Pickens

First Lady of Texas ($25,000) — Lyda Hill and Harold Simmons Foundation

Goodwill Ambassador ($15,000) — Kathi and Bob Craine; ExxonMobil; Dr. and Mrs. Mark Lemmon; Marty Leonard; Anne Logan; Northern Trust honoring Living Legend Founder Lyda Hill; Dr. and Mrs. John Pickens; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Sewell; McCombs Foundation; Gayle and Paul Stoffel

Author ($10,000) — Meek Foundation; Edwin L. Cox; Marit Peterson Fund for Melanoma Research Golf Tournament; Karen and Phillip Drayer; Al G. Hill Jr.; Stephanie and Hunter Hunt; Justiss Oil Company; Ms. Myron Kent Martin; Elizabeth and Don O’Neal; Mildred M. Oppenheimer; Mr. and Mrs. B.M. Rankin Jr.; Charles Simmons; Anna Belle P. Thomas; and SuEllen and John Wilson

The traditionally SRO lunch benefits The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Need a ticket? Then call Tanya Stelly at 866-262-9029 and beg.

Question: How does one address a former first lady? Mrs. Former First Lady? Mrs. Bush? Laura? Will check that one out with former White House Social Secretary/current Briggs-Freeman associate Linda Faulkner. If anyone knows, she’s the one.
